The Guild Hotel

In the heart of downtown San Diego sits an historical Armed Services Building that was once a YMCA and is now known as The Guild Hotel. It originally was built in 1924 as the Army Navy YMCA. Each room here tells a story of its own. That is why Matthew and I decided to tour and see why so many couples are choosing The Guild Hotel for their wedding day.

The exterior of the building looks as if it has been just as well kept as the interior. The Guild Hotel was renovated and opened to the public in 2019. Upon walking into the lobby space, you are greeted with a beautiful view of the bar and lounge area. The blue velvet that wraps around the center of the room paired with hightop seating was gorgeous. I felt this space had such a vintage feel but with an elegant, modern touch.

Unfortunately, they were setting up for an event so their Grace ballroom space was being used; however I was able to capture a quick image of the room. I love natural lighting and this ballroom has tons of access to natural light which comes through almost all the way around the Grace ballroom. The old track still sits around the exterior wall and the brass lighting goes with all of the brass details you will find around the Guild Hotel. Did I mention the walls are a clean white?! A photographers dream in my opinion.

As you walk through the large glass doors to the left, you have a perfect space to host cocktail hour and a ceremony (Poppy). String lights cast a beautiful ambient light and are perfect for cocktail hour. This space is minimal and functional so you could do a lot with it depending on your overall vision. Did I mention this place is a hotel as well? I absolutely love the idea of getting ready in a space where the couple doesn't have to travel far to the ceremony / reception space. Plus, these rooms are just as beautiful as the rest of the hotel.

One of my very favorite spaces in The Guild Hotel is the Courtyard. With its romantic, European style - this space is perfect for those with up to 140 guests. It has beautiful natural light and I adore the black and white striped cushions and umbrella's. It transports me back to Europe each time I see it.

As you make your way back to the front entrance, you will then be welcomed by a Boutique nestled in the left corner along with a space to grab a quick coffee. This boutique is hosts items such as skincare, hair products, mocktail mixers and more. I truly was blown away with how much thought went into this space.

So there you have it. The Guild Hotel (in my opinion) is a must if for couples who are wanting to get married in the heart of Downtown San Diego. It has the best location, the rooms are divine, the Grace Ballroom has the most natural light I have ever seen in a hotel ballroom. You cannot go wrong with this space - End of Story.
